A Promise

Today more than ever, me need to remember and claim God’s promise that we can have peace within our hearts no matter what is happening around us.  In Jesus’ final words to the disciples as recorded in the Gospel according to John, he said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27 NRSV).”

In times of distress God in the person of the Holy Spirit longs to comfort us.  It only remains for us to dare to believe and invite it into our heart.  No magic words or special rituals are required just a willingness to be still and invite the Holy Spirit in.  In the words of the hymn: “Spirit of the living God fall afresh on me, melt me, mold me, fill me, use.”
